  • What is polo?
    • Polo is an international sport and a 2500 year old sport.
    • Polo is played on a ten acre grass field. 300 yards in length by 160 yards, which is the approximate area of ten football fields.
    • There are four periods or “chukkars” in a match. Each chukkar is seven minutes long. Play begins with a throw-in of the ball by the umpire at the opening of each chukkar, and after each goal. Only penalties or injuries may stop play as there are no time-outs or substitutions allowed.
    • The mallet, made of bamboo shaft with a hardwood head, is the instrument used to hit the polo ball.
  • When and where is the 7th Annual Polo Classic?

    The 7th Annual Polo Classic will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Congressional Polo Club, 14660 Hughes Road, Poolesville, MD. Gates open at 1:00 p.m., and the event runs from 2:00–5:30 p.m.

  • What is included with my ticket?

    Your ticket includes admission to the Polo Classic, access to two exciting polo matches, the traditional divot stomp, contests such as Best Hat, Best Dressed, and Best Tailgate, local vendors, and an afternoon supporting Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland. Please review your ticket type for specific details.

  • Is parking included?

    Yes. Complimentary on-site parking is available for all guests.

  • What should I wear?

    Polo attire is encouraged but not required. Guests often wear business casual or Derby-inspired outfits. Hats, sundresses, sport coats, and comfortable shoes are popular choices since portions of the event take place on grass.

  • Are children welcome?

    Yes! The Polo Classic is a family-friendly event. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 12 are free.

  • What happens if it rains?

    The event is held rain or shine unless severe weather creates unsafe conditions. Should weather impact the event, updates will be posted on our website and social media channels and emailed to ticket holders.

  • Can I bring my own food and beverages?

    Tailgate ticket holders may bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages unless otherwise noted. Please review your ticket type for specific guidelines.

  • Will food and beverages be available for purchase?

    Food and beverages will be available for purchase through participating vendors.

  • Are pets allowed?

    Dogs on leashes are allowed.

  • Is the venue accessible?

    Yes. The venue offers accessible parking and viewing areas. If you require accommodations, please contact us prior to the event so we can assist you.

  • Can I purchase tickets at the event?

    Tickets may be available at the gate if the event has not sold out. We recommend purchasing tickets in advance to guarantee admission.

  • Are tickets refundable?

    Tickets are non-refundable.

  • Can I sponsor this event?

  • Can I become a vendor?

    Yes. We welcome retail vendors, artisans, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Vendor applications are available on the event page, and all applications are subject to approval.

  • Is photography allowed?

    Yes! We encourage guests to capture and share their experience. By attending, you acknowledge that photos and video may be taken during the event and used by Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland for promotional purposes.

  • What is the "Divot Stamp"?

    During halftime, guests are invited onto the field to help replace divots (pieces of turf displaced during play). It's a long-standing polo tradition and one of the most popular parts of the event.

  • I've never been to a polo match. Is that okay?

    Absolutely! Whether you're a first-time attendee or a longtime fan, everyone is welcome. 

  • Who benefits from this event?

    Proceeds from the Polo Classic support Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland's mission to build affordable homes, communities, and hope throughout Montgomery and Prince George's Counties.
