Design For Life Pilot Program 

HFHMM, in partnership with Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs, will soon be offering a program aimed at modifying the homes of willing and income qualified applicants with the goal of making them more widely accessible. This program will be open to qualified applicants (both senior and non-senior households) looking to make modifications to their home, which meet one of two differing levels of accessibility: Visit-able or Livable. Please see the table below in order to learn what each of those tiers encompasses.

Design for Life Levels of Home Modification

Visit-able

Access into the home: at least one zero-step entrance

Place to visit: connecting to accessible route to place to visit on entry level

Powder room: a usable powder room connected by an accessible route

Interior Doorway: 32-inch wide nominal interior doors.

Livable

Access into the home: at least one zero-step entrance

Place to visit: connecting to accessible route to place to visit on entry level

Powder room: a usable powder room connected by an accessible route

Interior Doorway: 32-inch wide nominal interior doors.

Accessible circulation path to kitchen

Accessible bedroom: at least one bedroom

Accessible bathroom: at least one full bathroom

Things to know:

  • This program will be offered to Montgomery County residents as it is funded by Montgomery County DHCA (Department of Housing and Community Affairs).
  • You do not have to be a senior, disabled, or have a specified need for critical repairs in your home to participate in this program.
  • Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland Repair and Weatherization is not an emergency or crisis based program. If you have issues within your home which cause an imminent danger to you or members of your household, please see our additional resources page for more information.
  • HFHMM strives to serve as many households as possible. For Homeowners who participated in our Repair, Weatherization, and/or CAPABLE program(s) in 2015 or later, HFHMM will not approve applications for additional services within a 7-year period.
