Are you a motivated young professional looking to expand your network, grow as a leader, and make a real difference in your community? Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland’s Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) Board is recruiting passionate, purpose-driven members!
Habitat employees are not eligible to hold Board positions.
HYP Board Member Positions & Descriptions

Chair
- Provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the HYP Board
- Facilitates board meetings and sets agendas
- Serves as the primary liaison with HFHMM staff and the Board of Directors
- Ensures committees are supported and goals are on track

Vice Chair
- Supports the Chair and steps in when the Chair is unavailable
- Helps coordinate cross-committee projects
- Assists with meeting facilitation and annual planning
- Prepares to transition into the Chair role in the future

Secretary
- Maintains accurate meeting notes, documents, and attendance
- Ensures timely communication to board members
- Manages internal records, calendars, and deadlines
- Assists with onboarding new members

Treasurer
- Oversees the financial health and integrity of the HYP Board
- Tracks income, expenses, and budgets
- Prepares financial reports for board meetings and annual summaries
- Collaborates with committees to monitor fundraising goals and event budgets
- Ensures proper documentation and transparency of all financial activities
- Supports strategic planning with financial insights and recommendations

Membership & Engagement Chair
- Recruits new HYP members and oversees onboarding
- Coordinates networking, social, and professional development events
- Tracks member participation and engagement
- Helps create a welcoming and inclusive community

Communications & Marketing Chair
- Leads social media, digital outreach, and event promotion
- Develops content strategies to highlight HYP activities
- Works with HFHMM staff to ensure brand alignment
- Helps communicate the impact of Habitat’s mission

Fundraising & Events Chair
- Oversees HYP fundraising initiatives and special events
- Helps set and track annual fundraising goals
- Coordinates sponsorship outreach and donor engagement
- Supports creative fundraising ideas and event logistics

Advocacy & Community Impact Chair
- Organizes volunteer days including build sites, ReStore shifts, and service events
- Promotes local advocacy initiatives supporting affordable housing
- Educates members on Habitat’s impact and policy priorities
- Strengthens connections with community partners

General Board Member Responsibilities
All HYP Board members commit to:
- Attending monthly or bi-monthly board meetings
- Participating in at least one committee
- Supporting annual fundraising and volunteer goals
- Serving as ambassadors for HFHMM’s mission
- Engaging in events, outreach, and community-building
